EXTENSIONS
Home Extensions in Canberra
Expand your living space with home extensions designed to complement your existing structure. We create functional, well-integrated additions built efficiently to the highest standards.
An extension is judged on whether it reads as part of the original home or as something stuck on the back of it. That is a design problem before it is a building problem, which is why the people designing it are the people who will build it.
What an extension involves
Extending an existing home brings in work a new build never has to deal with: tying new structure into old, matching finishes and rooflines, and keeping the house liveable while the work happens. Our scope covers:
- Design that resolves the addition against the existing structure and site
- Development and building approval documentation
- Structural work, tie-ins and making good
- Matching finishes, roofing and external materials
- Interior coordination so the new space is not obviously newer
Types of extension we take on
Most extensions fall into one of a few shapes, and each carries its own constraints:
- Rear extensions. Usually the most straightforward structurally, and often the biggest change to how the house is actually used day to day.
- Side extensions. Constrained by boundary setbacks and by how the new roof meets the old one.
- Second-storey additions. The most demanding option, because the existing footings and structure have to be assessed for the load before anything else is decided.
- Garage, studio and living-space additions. Often the simplest way to gain a room without reworking the existing plan.
How the process works
We begin with a consultation on site, because an extension cannot be sensibly discussed from a floor plan alone. From there we work up a design that resolves the addition against the existing structure, set out an itemised cost and a construction programme, prepare the development and building approval documentation, and then manage the build through to completion.
Approvals matter more on extensions than people expect. Setbacks, overshadowing, site coverage and how the addition presents to the street can all shape the design, so it is better to know the constraints while the concept is still on paper.
Where we build
We are based in Canberra and build throughout the surrounding area. We regularly take on home extensions throughout Canberra (ACT), Googong and the surrounding regional areas.

QUESTIONS
Frequently asked questions
How are home extension costs calculated?
We tailor every proposal individually, because the cost depends on your design and your choice of finishes. We maintain accountability with honest, transparent pricing guides from early design conceptualisation through to finalised documentation, so you can see how the number is arrived at rather than being handed a total.
Will the extension match the existing house?
That is the point of it. Matching rooflines, external materials and finishes is part of the design work, not an afterthought, and the interior coordination is handled so the new space does not read as obviously newer than the rest of the home.
Do I need approval for a home extension?
In most cases yes. Our design phase covers preparing the regulatory documentation required for submission, including the early architectural concepts and drafting, and we manage the development and building compliance process on your behalf.
